From Flour to Quilt

Eddy and I like to support local establishments, so we buy all of our flour from War Eagle Mill in Rogers, Arkansas. War Eagle Mill sells organic stoneground flour that it grinds using hydro power. Many of its products come in cloth sacks. Eddy and I try to reuse and recycle as much as possible. When we began buying flour from War Eagle Mill, we didn’t know how to reuse or recycle cloth. AR FoodCorps is Hiring!

FoodCorps is a nationwide team of leaders that connects kids to real food and helps them grow up healthy. FoodCorps places these leaders in limited-resource communities for a year of public service where they conduct hands-on food education, build and tend school gardens, and facilitate getting high-quality local food into public school cafeterias. So far this year these service members have reached over 40,000 children in 12 states. Since coming to Arkansas in August 2012, service members have reached over 7,000 kids and donated over 4,600 pounds of produce to food banks and families. Learn to Keep Bees at Beginning Beekeeping Class

Interested in keeping bees but don’t know how? Attend the 2013 Beginning Beekeeping Class hosted by the Central Arkansas Beekeepers Association (CABA). The two-day class will be held at the Levy Church of Christ auditorium (5124 Camp Robinson Road) on Friday-Saturday, March 22-23. The Friday session will take place between 6-9 p.m. The Saturday session will be between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. with a one-hour break for lunch. CAAH! to Host Seed Swaps across the State

Co-sponsored by libraries, farmers markets, a state park, and more, the University of Central Arkansas’s Conserving Arkansas’s Agricultural Heritage (CAAH!) project will host Seed Swaps around the state throughout Spring 2013. Bring some open-pollinated (heirloom) seeds, bulbs, plants, and stories to swap with other seed savers.
